Digging

I decided to grow my tomatoes in the ground this year. There are so many other things that we wanted to try growing that our vegetable planters were all spoken for and there was no room left for tomatoes. I read in a gardening book that you can just dig a hole and grow them right in the lawn! After digging two holes, I decided that it probably wasn't something I should really be doing at this point in the pregnancy. Patrick and Connor finished digging the other two holes I needed. Laura supervised and I mixed some of the very sandy dirt from the holes with compost and steer manure. We now have four tomato plants growing happily in our yard.

My First French Braids!

Laura got french braids for the first time today. She didn't sit very still so it was some what of a challenge. I just braided the top half and left the back curly. It turned out really cute and with a little hairspray, lasted almost all day!

Cutting and Pasting

Connor Loves scissors!

Laura coloured and did stickers

What Fun! "See my scissors!"

I could do this all day! (and he did for about an hour and a half!)

Busy Week!

What a week! After Easter things didn't slow dawn at all. On Monday I had a doctor's check up. The baby is growing well and had a heartbeat of 130. After the checkup, We went to Jo-Ann fabrics and I found some cute flannel to make baby blankets. Later in the afternoon, Mom got here and we got ready for Gamma's party! What a Party! I think she was really surprised. Lots of family and some of Gramma's friends were there. We had a Mexican themed dinner that was really delicious. The kids ran around and had a great time. Laura was very interested in the babies. Both Lincoln and Miley were there and Laura got to hold them both. She cried really hard when she had to give either of them up. Connor was more interested in the BIG kids and had to have his baseball mitt so he could be like Colton and Jake. It was nice to see everyone together.

Mom stayed until Wednesday afternoon. We had a nice, but rather short, visit. We made flash cards for Connor so he can learn to read. He was really excited and had fun putting stickers on the card and helping to find pictures to cut out of old magazines. Laura liked the project too. She can "read" baby and has claimed that card as her own! We were sad to see Mom leave but hope to see her again in a few short weeks!
Thursday, Patrick had the day off and we went out for breakfast with Jeani and Josh. We went to this cafe in Maltby. The food there is delicious!!! I had french toast with strawberries and creme freche. I could hardly finish it all there was so much food. Pat had to help grade some job application papers for a position they are trying to fill at Forest Park. So, after breakfast, he headed back to Everett and Connor, Laura, Josh, Jeani and I went to country village. We went to the quilt shop there. Jeani needed to get some things for a project she is working on. I found some precut squares to make a small (crib size) quilt top with. We fed the ducks and chickens and looked for bunnies. Connor and Laura had a grand time and spent all Gramma's spare change on crushed corn and rice! We were going to go swimming that night but Connor had to learn the hard way that it is important to listen to Mommy and Daddy and there is no reason it should take an hour to pick up the toys!

Friday! I'm almost caught up! On Friday we went to the children's museum. We got our tax return back and were able to renew our membership. We actually upgraded as well so now our whole family plus one extra adult can go anytime. Grampa joined us this time. Connor and Laura enjoyed showing him around Laura led him to the water area and Connor had fun building a car with him in the construction zone. We tried to go swimming that night too but the pool was closed for maintenance. We tried going to the Library instead but they close early on Friday night. By this time the backseat of our car was full of tears of disappointment. This was remedied by a stop at the Goodwill where we found some new books and some videos.

On Saturday, Patrick had to go back to work. The kids and I stayed home. I worked on the quilt top I had got blocks for on Thursday. We all took nice naps and the kids were happy to play with there toys (at least most of the day). Connor did find my sewing scissors and quilt blocks that I had left on the table when I went to put them down for their naps. I had fallen asleep with Laura and Connor had decided that he wasn't tired and didn't need a nap. Luckily I had 4 extra blocks and he had only cut up 3 before I found him. Needless to say, he did take a nap after that and I did not lie down with him! Patrick surprised me that evening by taking me out to dinner and to see a movie. It was so nice to have an evening with just the two of us. We need to do it more often!
Sunday, today, we went to Mass with Mike then out to lunch with Pat Edge, Amy, and her two boys. I got the front lawn mowed this evening and we BBQ for dinner. What nice end to a long week. Hopefully this coming week will be a bit slower!

Easter Sunday

It started out as a beautiful sunny day. Patrick hid hard boiled eggs in the living room before he went to work. Connor woke up before Laura and had already found two eggs before I was able to convince him that we should wake Laura up before he found any more. Laura LOVED her Easter basket and carried it around all morning. I think she ate more candy today than the rest of the family put together. We went to Mass with Mike at 10am. Connor was very interested in the baptismal font. At St. Mary Magdalen, the font is the size of a hot tub and has a sort of fountain on the side so you hear running water all the time. It was right up in the sanctuary in front of the alter. After Mass we came home and took naps! Connor and Laura played outside in the afternoon and Jeani came over to help me get ready for dinner. As the afternoon wore on, it got more and more overcast and by the time Patrick got home from work, it was threatening to rain. He hid plastic eggs in the back yard as soon as he got home. We had to have the egg hunt before anyone arrived because it started to pour down rain! Connor and Laura didn't seem to mind and found all the eggs despite the rain. Mike and Jeani, Ryan and Cari and Josh came over for dinner. We had planned to BBQ steaks hoping for nice weather. I had set a nice table in the kitchen with all the food and everyone helped themselves, buffet style. Since there wasn't enough room for everyone to sit down inside (we only have 4 chairs), Mike rigged up a cover for the picnic table and we all ate outside in the rain. It wasn't exactly what I had in mind but it was nice to have everyone over.

Happy Easter

On Saturday, we decorated bags for the Easter egg hunt! We got VERY messy but it was lots of fun! We also dyed eggs but it happened SO FAST that mommy couldn't take any pictures. We were VERY efficient!

On Easter morning there was candy in our Easter baskets and we got to eat some before breakfast! What a great way to start the day!

Look what I found! Don't Connor and I look cute in the morning!

All ready for Mass and what a beautiful sunny day. Now we just have to stay clean while we wait for Grampa to pick us up.

Easter Bonnet Hockey!

Daddy's Weekend

Daddy brought a kite home from work with him on Wednesday. We tried to fly it in the back yard but there wasn't enough space and the wind kept dieing. So, we went up to Forest Park and had more success in the big field there. It was fun for a very short time but then the call of the playground became overpowering and we had to go play on the slides and swings!

On Friday, we went to Uncle Ryan and Auntie Cari's house for a picnic. Laura liked playin with the hose and Connor played catch with Uncle Ryan. Auntie Cari had cup cakes for us! Yummy!

April Fools!

What a surprise to wake up to SNOW! After a week of sunshine and yard work, it was rather shocking to see the ground dusted with this white fluffy stuff. It must be the whether's idea of an April Fool's joke.

Saturday

Saturday we went to the grocery store with Jeani. We got there just as they were starting an Easter egg hunt for the kids. Connor and Laura joined in. They were a little unsure what to do at first but once Connor realized that there were treats hidden in the straw, he was much more enthusiastic! Inside, they had craft booths set up throughout the store. We made bunny ear hats, candy necklaces and decorated cupcakes. Connor and Laura LOVED all the SUGAR!

This Past Week

What beautiful whether! It has been sunny all week. We spent as much time outside as we could. I got lots of weeding done, my vegetable boxes cleaned up, a bunch of seeds started and flower pots planted for the front steps. I also pressure washed the front steps and walkway. Connor and Laura were delighted to be able to ride bikes, colour with chalk, play hockey in the drive way and 'help' me in the garden. Patrick was sick and got sent home from work on Tuesday and Wednesday. He's had a crumby soar throat and stuffed up sinuses. He spent a lot of time sleeping but when he was awake, helped with the yard work, pruning some rhododendrons, played with the kids and read them lots of stories! They love having their dad home.
